Designed for a client with a professional background in interior design, this project balances bold aesthetics with the functional requirements of a central social hub.
The client came to German Kitchen Design through a direct referral from a family member and fellow interior designer, establishing a foundation of trust from the outset. His vision was for a space that facilitated interaction – a venue for serving drinks, preparing pasta, and entertaining guests – rather than a traditional utility space.
Given the client’s collection of art and the open nature of the floor plan, the kitchen needed to hold its own visually. A key technical requirement was durability; specifically, the shelving needed to be robust enough to support the substantial weight of the client’s collection of porcelain and heavy ceramics without bending or warping over time.
The client sought a partner who could provide not just cabinetry, but a consultative approach to optimize the layout for social flow.
Consultation & Color Evolution
The design process was highly collaborative. Initially, the concept focused on “Hairline Silver” fronts paired with warm wood to match the home’s architectural details. However, utilizing our 3D visualization tools, the client and our team determined that this initial palette appeared too subtle and clinical for the space.
To create the desired visual impact, the design pivoted to a bold rust red finish. This choice transformed the kitchen into a deliberate accent piece that anchors the living area. To ensure the bold color did not become overpowering, German Kitchen Design recommended integrating glass cabinets and open shelving. This broke up the solid panels, adding depth, texture, and a designated space to display the client’s ceramics.
Design Concepts
The layout was engineered for socialization. We recommended a configuration that utilizes both a peninsula and an island – a distinct combination that maximizes counter space for serving while maintaining a clear traffic flow for guests.
Material Selection
To meet the functional requirements, we selected heavy-duty shelving systems capable of bearing significant loads for the porcelain collection.
The Geoluxe Nestos Royal porcelain worktops were chosen for its durability during entertaining. The cabinetry features EASYTOUCH in rust red ultra matt, providing a sophisticated matte finish that resists fingerprints during social gatherings, paired with FLASH in ivory high gloss to add light and depth to the design.
A major component of this project’s success was logistical flexibility. Due to unforeseen construction delays regarding the home’s glass staircase, the installation site was inaccessible for a significant period. German Kitchen Design accommodated this delay by securely storing the manufactured kitchen for nearly a year, ensuring the materials remained in pristine condition until the site was ready.
Upon installation, our team executed the complex layout with precision. While a minor adjustment was required regarding the hood installation, our after-sales team resolved the issue promptly, ensuring the kitchen functioned perfectly.
The client, leveraging his industry background, noted the seamless nature of the collaboration and the reliability of the service.
“It was a true collaboration. I provided the vision, and German Kitchen Design provided the expertise to make it work. The process was easy, and the result is exactly what I envisioned.” – Khun Santi (Dom) Pranich
