Down in Thailand’s balmy Pattaya, this stunning kitchen transformation by German Kitchen Design helped bring life, energy, and vitality to the client’s home.
Originally a humble kitchenette cornered off from the rest of the home by a small door, our combined work with the client’s architect helped us achieve something incredible: a space that seamlessly blends a once-separate kitchen into a spacious, light-filled living area, offering breathtaking sea views.
Over the course of this project, German Kitchen Design overcame the challenge of uniting disparate spaces by thoughtfully incorporating wood elements and strategically positioning a breakfast bar from which people can fully enjoy the space’s coastal panorama.
The result is gorgeously picturesque: a balance of functionality and modern aesthetics, perfectly tailored to the client’s visions and lifestyle.
EASYTOUCH in taupe grey ultra matt. This sleek, handleless design provides a modern and sophisticated look. The ultra-matt finish adds a touch of understated elegance.
Silestone quartz in a 20mm thickness, applied as both the kitchen’s worktop as well as backsplash. Durable, beautiful, and easy to maintain, this quartz adds a touch of luxury.
Laminate coated with a Sierra Oak appearance. This warm wood element connects the kitchen to the living room’s aesthetic.
Open shelving within the tall glass cabinets adds a display element while keeping the space feeling open and airy.
High-quality appliances from Liebherr (refrigeration), Vintec (wine storage), and Gorenje (other appliances), with a sink and tap from Blanco, each offering top-of-the-line performance and style.
The clients envisioned a kitchen that flowed seamlessly into their living space, maximizing their stunning sea view. Already settled with a specific vision in mind for the color and texture of wood they were looking for to complement the rest of their space, finding the right materials – and a high quality kitchen in general – proved to be a challenge for them as they were located in Pattaya, away from the diverse choices available in Bangkok.
On one of their visits to River City Bangkok, they had happened upon German Kitchen Design’s showroom. They mentioned they were impressed with the quality of the products and selections available and sought our services.
From our subsequent consultation, the client confided in us their challenges, informing us of their desire for specific wood materials, as well as their goals for their kitchen. Our team helped to devise design solutions, suggesting a modern and inviting breakfast area that matched the surrounding spaces’ aesthetics, where they could leverage their ocean-side scenery. This would not only seamlessly blend with the existing wood elements in their living room, but completely transform their previously separate, traditional-looking kitchen into a contemporary, cohesive part of their home.
German Kitchen Design’s team also closely helped with appliance selection, providing options to fit the clients’ specifications for spacious refrigerator storage with a separate freezer, a hood-in-hob, an integrated wine fridge as part of the kitchen island, and quality, stylish glass cabinets for decorative displays.
Consultation
We began with a thorough consultation, understanding the clients’ desire for an open, integrated space that capitalized on the sea view. It was clear from the beginning that our clients were quite selective and knowledgeable about what they wanted – as such, their preference for a modern aesthetic with natural wood accents was central to our design approach. The client also expressed their need for a design layout that complemented their home’s renovation, which had the main goal of connecting the kitchen to the rest of the space.
Throughout this process, we maintained close communication with our clients to get a strong understanding of the type of material they were searching for, from texture through color, and how they envisioned connecting the spaces into one continuous, open area.
Design Concepts
Leveraging our vast design options, we presented concepts that focused on connecting the kitchen and living area. The strategic placement of the island and the tall glass cabinet became key elements in achieving this flow.
Not only did the island help to provide a natural buffer between the more deliberate galley kitchen layout that serves as the kitchen’s main area – chosen for its innate symmetry that helps the area feel more open, while offering uncompromising functionality in the form of plenty of storage space and a thoughtfully placed kitchen work triangle – but it is also positioned as the space’s communal area, with drinks just an arm’s reach away.
Material Selection
When it comes to wood, material selection can be complex. Many factors, from price through wood grain type and the desired laminate finish, make deciding on a final choice very difficult.
We made sure to guide the clients through our premium material selection, showcasing the quality and durability of options like our various wood finishes, the island’s wood surface, and of course, the Silestone quartz worktop. Ultimately, the taupe grey ultra matt EASYTOUCH cabinet fronts provided a modern counterpoint to the warmth of the Sierra Oak breakfast bar, reflecting the client’s desired aesthetic.
Our meticulous approach ensures a seamless transition from concept to reality, coordinating closely with our client’s architect the most convenient and time-efficient scheduling possible. Our kitchens are manufactured in Germany to the highest standards of quality and precision, then shipped and expertly installed in Thailand by our dedicated team.
This project highlights our full-service project management, coordinating every detail from production to installation, ensuring a stress-free experience for the client.
The rest of the installation commenced without issue, and the client was very pleased with the overall result.
